Eggs: While any eggs will work in this recipe, older eggs will peel better than fresh eggs.
Salt: A dash of salt is necessary to prevent the eggs from exploding while they cook. Measure two teaspoons per egg or an additional ½ teaspoon for additional eggs.
How to Microwave Hard-Boiled Eggs
- Pour enough water into a microwave-safe bowl to cover the eggs by an inch.
- Heat water until very hot, about 3 minutes.
- Stir in salt until it evaporates and gently add eggs.
- Cook eggs (recipe below).
- Transfer eggs to a water bath to cool.
Tips for Success

Microwave Hard Boiled Eggs

Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- water
Instructions
- Fill a deep microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup with enough water to cover the eggs by 1 inch.
- Microwave the bowl of water for 3 minutes until very hot.
- Stir in the salt until it dissolves (this will prevent the eggs from exploding) and gently add the eggs.
- Microwave for 4 minutes for jammy eggs or 5 minutes for a solid yolk. Let stand in the water for 3 minutes.
- Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and transfer the eggs to an ice bath to cool.
