How to Make Soup
Every soup is made a little different. But whether making a simple soup recipe in an Instant Pot, Crockpot, or on the stove they all start the same.
- Prep – Wash, chop, dice, and prep all your veggies and meat.
- Combine – Mix all ingredients together in a pot with broth, cream, or water as indicated in the recipe.
- Simmer – Let all the meat and veggie simmer together to cook. Be sure to add the spices so they can simmer and create a rich and flavorful base.
Then serve! The best way to serve soup is with a side of bread, like cheesy breadsticks or dinner rolls, to soak up every last drop!
How to Thicken Soup
To thicken soup make a simple roux by combining equal parts butter and flour in a saucepan and adding to the soup mixture.
You can also combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with about 1/2 cup of cold water and pour it directly into the soup to thicken.
Let the soup come to a boil to determine the thickness before adding any additional roux!
How to Freeze Soup
Before freezing, let the soup cool completely. Then ladle it into a container or zippered bag and lay flat to freeze.
Be sure to leave room in the container or zippered bag as the liquid will expand as it freezes.
