  • Ground Beef: Use lean ground beef for the best flavor without making the sauce greasy. Drain well before adding the hamburger seasoning.
  • Macaroni: Elbow macaroni holds the sauce well and gives this dish a classic mac and cheese feel. Swap it for small shells, rotini, or fusilli that also hold the sauce well.
  • Cheese: Cream cheese and cheddar cheese give this recipe its creamy texture. Swap the cheddar for Mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a cheddar blend for a milder sauce.
  • Sauce: A mixture of ketchup, mustard, beef broth, and tomato sauce creates the cheeseburger flavor in this recipe. For a sharper flavor, replace the mustard with Dijon or the ketchup with chili sauce.

How to Make Cheeseburger Pasta

  1. Brown the ground beef and drain well.
  2. Add in the pasta, broth, and tomato sauce and bring to a boil.
  3. Once the pasta is al dente, remove it from the heat. Stir in the remaining ingredients and serve!

Holly’s Best Pasta Tips

  • Large Skillet: Use a large skillet with a lid so there is enough room for the pasta to cook evenly and absorb the sauce.
  • Stir Occasionally: Stir the pasta occasionally to prevent it from sticking together. This also helps to ensure the pasta cooks evenly in the skillet.
  • Smoother Sauce: For the best texture, use freshly grated cheese. But pre-shredded cheese will work in a pinch.
  • Remove From Heat: To prevent the cheese from getting grainy, remove the pasta from the heat before mixing it in.

Leftovers Made Easy

Store leftover cheeseburger pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave with a splash of beef broth or milk to loosen the sauce.

Leftovers can be frozen in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. The pasta will soften when thawed.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning *see notes
  • 12 ounces elbow macaroni or similar-sized pasta
  • 4 cups less sodium beef broth plus more broth (or water) if needed
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 ounces cream cheese cut in pieces
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks, until no pink remains. Drain any excess grease, then stir in hamburger seasoning.
  • Add the pasta, broth, and tomato sauce to the beef. Bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to a gentle boil, cover, and cook for 7 to 10 minutes or until the pasta is al dente and most of the liquid has been absorbed, stirring occasionally. If the pasta looks dry, add a bit more broth or water.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, ketchup, and mustard, mixing until melted.

Notes

The salt levels vary in different brands of hamburger seasoning; you may need to adjust the amount to your taste.
If you don’t have hamburger seasoning on hand, combine 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (or sweet paprika)
