Ingredients to make Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats labeled: Marshmallows, lucky charms, rice krispies, vanilla, and butter

5 Simple Ingredients

Lucky Charms – The colorful marshmallow shapes in this sugary cereal is what gives this recipe its signature. Yes, you could substitute colored marshmallows, but where would be the “charm?”

Rice Krispies – These will make your treat extra light and crispy. Many brands make this cereal under slightly different names (Crispy Rice, Rice Crisps, etc.) and all will work well with this recipe.

Marshmallows – Use fresh, mini marshmallows for the best melting effect.

Butter – Real butter is richer and fuller flavored than non-dairy spreads. Salted butter will give a subtle layer of deliciousness to your treats.

Vanilla – If possible, always use real vanilla extract instead of imitation. It has a more intense flavor and no bitterness.

Variations – To make your treats super sweet, toss in chocolate, mint, or butterscotch chips. Double the butter and marshmallow and make a batch of Reese’s Pieces krispie squares, along with your Lucky Charms treats.

How to Make Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats

  1. Melt butter and marshmallows together, as described in the recipe below.
  2. Fold Lucky Charms and Rice Krispies into the marshmallow mixture.
  3. Press the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch pan.
  4. Cool completely and cut into squares.

Recipe Tips

  • Lucky Charms treats are sticky and gooey, so grease will be your ally in this recipe!
    • Use some of the butter to grease up the sides of the microwave safe bowl before adding the marshmallows and the remaining butter and marshmallows .
    • Grease the spatula and/or your hands as well to aid in combining and pressing the sticky mixture into the pan.
    • Be sure the pan is greased well or lined with parchment to make removal easy.
  • Microwave on HIGH power for 1 minute intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is just melted. This should take no longer than 3 minutes total. Do not over heat the marshmallows.
  • Allow these tasty treats to cool completely before cutting into squares.
  • Run a knife under hot water and wipe clean to help cut through the squares easier.
