Summer And Baked Apple Slices Go Together Because:
- Using fresh seasonal honey crisp apples makes the dish sweet with a slight tartness.
- Honey crisps also hold up well to baking where they become tender and juicy.
- It has a caramel-like richness with a hint of cinnamon. So good to add to summer desserts.
- The addition of cornstarch will thicken the sauce making it irresistably syrupy. This will go well spooned over vanilla ice cream.
- This is light, delicious, and so quick & easy to prepare in the summer.
Ingredients
Apples: Honey crisp apples are perfect for baking, but Granny Smith, Fuji, McIntosh, or any combination of apples will do. Skip the peeling for a more rustic fibre-filled dish.
Sugar & Spice: Corn starch helps the sugar and cinnamon adhere to the slices. Bump up the fall-inspired flavor with a dash or two of homemade apple pie spice. Feel free to use your favorite brown sugar substitute in this recipe.
Butter: This recipe deserves the best! For extra sweetness, whisk melted butter with a little maple syrup or honey before using in Step 3.
Variations
Add a little crunch to baked apple slices with a handful of chopped walnuts, pecans, slivered almonds, or some coconut flakes. Try sauteing the nuts in a dry pan until barely fragrant for extra crunch and flavor. Make a festive topping by adding cranberries or raisins.
