Holly’s Recipe Highlights: Shrimp Salad

  • Flavor: This easy shrimp salad has a creamy, fresh flavor with bright lemon, crisp vegetables, and a hint of dill in every bite.
  • Time-Saver: Use pre-cooked shrimp or a shrimp ring for faster prep.
  • Prep Note: Chop large shrimp into bite-sized pieces and finely dice the celery to make it easier to scoop and serve.
  • Serving Suggestions: I love serving this over butter lettuce for a light lunch. But it’s delicious tucked into a croissant, spooned into a wrap, or served with crackers.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients to make Shrimp Salad
  • Cooked Shrimp: Peeled, deveined, tail-off cooked shrimp make this recipe quick and easy. If the shrimp are large, chop them into bite-sized pieces for even coating with the dressing.
  • Celery: Finely diced celery adds a crisp texture and blends evenly throughout the salad without overpowering the shrimp.
  • Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise creates the base of the creamy dressing. For a lighter option, replace part of it with plain Greek yogurt.
  • Old Bay Seasoning: Old Bay adds classic seafood flavor with minimal effort. If needed, Cajun seasoning can be substituted; just start with a smaller amount and taste-test before adding more.
  • Variations: Fold in diced avocado just before serving for extra creaminess, or add diced cucumber, bell pepper, or radish for more crunch.

How to Make Shrimp Salad

  1. Mix the dressing ingredients.
  2. Combine shrimp, celery, green onion, and dill.
  3. Toss with dressing and chill (full recipe below).

Serve cold over butter lettuce.

Tips for the Best Shrimp Salad

  • Use Cold Shrimp: Warm shrimp will loosen the mayo dressing and change the texture.
  • Dry the Shrimp: Dry the shrimp well, as extra moisture can thin the dressing and make the salad watery.
  • Chill Before Serving: One hour in the refrigerator helps the lemon, dill, and Old Bay flavor the shrimp.
  • Season After Mixing: Shrimp and Old Bay can both be salty, so taste before adding extra salt.

Storing Shrimp Salad

  • Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Do not leave at room temperature for longer than 2 hours.
