Turkey Gravy Without Drippings

Easy rich and flavorful homemade gravy can be made even without drippings!

  • ½ cup salted butter
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme leaves
  • ¼ teaspoon dried ground sage
  • cups turkey broth more as needed
  • 1 pinch salt & pepper to taste


  • To a medium saucepan add butter and melt over medium heat.
  • Stir in flour, thyme, and sage and cook until fragrant and the mixture starts to lightly brown, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add the broth, a little bit at a time, whisking after each addition until smooth.
  • Bring to a boil and let boil for 2 minutes.
  • Season with salt & pepper to taste.

  • Any flavor of broth can be used, but reduced sodium broth is not recommended.
