Green bean Casserole has always been a family staple for us. There’s something about mixing the fresh taste of green beans, with delicious creamy mushroom soup and crispy fried onions and of course sharp cheddar cheese that just screams holiday dinner! This easy green bean casserole is honestly one of my all-time favorites.
Just the simple addition of cheddar cheese and a hint of garlic powder to a traditional green bean casserole takes it from great to amazing.
I used to make my green bean casserole with cream of chicken soup, but once I made the switch over to mushroom soup I was forever changed!
This casserole is so easy to make, which comes in handy when I don’t have time to make a green bean casserole from scratch.
It’s definitely one of my favorite dishes to bring to potlucks and dinners. It is SO easy to make at home and bring with you because it can be made up to 24 hours ahead of time and baked just before serving.
If you’d like, you can substitute the canned beans with fresh or frozen green beans! If you decide to substitute for fresh green beans, just cook them in a pot of boiling salted water for about 3 minutes before you add them to the casserole.
My daughter requests this dish at every special dinner, it’s one of her favorites (and mine too because it’s so easy to make).
To make this green bean casserole, all you have to do is mix all of the ingredients together, top with crispy fried onions (my favorite part), and bake!
The best part, there are barely any leftovers when I make it! Of course it’s a great side for turkey dinner but try pairing it with Ritz Cracker Chicken for a complete easy meal! It makes our busy weeknights full of practices and homework a lot more manageable.

Even with canned green beans, we like the flavor much better if we cook the beans for a few minutes with a little bacon grease, garlic salt, and onion powder! Yum! Oh, and we don’t use cheese. I’ve never heard of putting cheese in it?
