Fruit – No need to thaw frozen fruit! Use any kind of berries, a berry blend, cherries, pineapple or even a can of peaches will do!
Soda – The carbonation from soda helps the cake rise and offers a sweet flavor. Sprite and 7-Up add a light sweetness to a dump cake. Colas, root beers, and even Dr. Pepper drinks will add a deeper flavor.

Does it need to be refrigerated??
Hi Amber, we do store this cake in the fridge if not eating the same day it was cooked. I hope you enjoy it!
Love the recipe for the Dump Cake. Canโt wait to try it. Looks delicious and easy to make.
I can’t wait for you to try it either Joanne!
Could I use ginger ale (instead of 7up) with a spice cake mix and apples?
I haven’t tried it so I can’t say for sure. But this should work just fine Laura, I would love to hear how it turns out if you try it!
I just scooped this out only to find the dry cake batter under the top crust. It’s like the dry cake batter never absorbed the soda. Had to trash tonights dessert.
Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that, Bevyn. We have never had that problem with this recipe so I am not sure what went wrong.
Same here, cake mix is still powder. Smelled
delicious while baking but, is definitely not edible. Would not make again.
Why does it say to use an 8 x 8 pan when the video shows a rectangular pan?
You can use any 2 quart dish. Enjoy Jay, it’s so easy and delicious!
