Juicy Ingredients

Watermelon: Look for a heavy melon without cracks or bruises that sounds hollow when you tap it. It should also have a ‘yellow spot’ that lets you know it was vine-ripened before being harvested.

Dressing: Choose your favorite balsamic vinaigrette, but avoid using straight balsamic vinegar since it will be too acidic and soak into the fruit instead of glazing it on the outside.

Sizzling Swaps: Try making a grilled fruit ‘melange’ using slices or chunks of cantaloupe, honeydew, peaches, and pineapple!

How to Make Grilled Watermelon

  1. Slice watermelon and brush with balsamic vinaigrette (full recipe below).
  2. Grill on direct heat until grill marks are visible and serve immediately.

From Grill to Great Again

  • Keep leftover grilled watermelon in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use leftovers as colorful garnishes in a pitcher of homemade sangria, or puree them and freeze into ice cubes for iced tea or sparkling water.
  • Or add them to a cool and crisp watermelon cucumber salad.
