Gum wrapped as Santa reindeer and an elf for extra special stocking stuffers

I don’t know about you, but for me, figuring out stocking stuffers or teacher gifts that aren’t junk is super difficult! It seems like no matter what I choose, it always ends up being a waste of my money.I LOVE the holidays and one of my favorite things to do is give gifts, but I prefer thoughtful or handmade gifts.  I won’t lie, I was up past midnight last night on Pinterest pinning my favorite holiday ideas because I wanted to be prepared this year! The hubs and I started early and came up with a great idea!! We were in Dollar General and noticed a display of Extra® gum and it gave me a great idea! (you can find your local Dollar General store with this store locator)

I remembered when I was younger and how much my little brother loved gum! My mom was always trying to find a unique way to incorporate it into his gifts. Then I had a great idea for my own kids and for teachers gifts!! I grabbed up a bunch of packs of Extra® and some Doublemint® because really, remember those commercials? That just reminds me so much of growing up! Then I ran home to set to work!

Packages of gum on a countertop

To make these adorable little guys you’ll just need a few things:

  • construction paper
  • glue (I used a glue stick but you can use hot glue, white glue, any kind that strikes your fancy!)
  • tape
  • scissors
  • cotton balls

Directions for Santa:

  • Step 1: Cut construction paper slightly larger than the gum package (just like wrapping a present).
  • Step 2: Wrap and tape construction paper to the package.
  • Step 3: Use gum wrapper from another pack of gum to create the belt. Wrap gum wrapper around package and tape in place.
  • Step 4: Cut belt buckle from construction paper and glue to gum wrapper belt.
  • Step 5: Glue cotton balls in place for Santa’s beard.
  • Step 6: Draw buttons with a black marker or use construction paper again.

Directions for the Reindeer:

  • Step 1: Wrap and tape gum package (just like you did with the Santa one above)
  • Step 2: Cut out a nose, antlers, and eyes from construction paper.
  • Step 3: Tape antlers to back of package and glue eyes/nose in place.
  • Step 4: Draw pupils and mouth.

Directions for the elf:

  • Step 1: Cut construction paper slightly larger than the gum package
  • Step 2: Wrap and tape construction paper to the package.
  • Step 3: Use gum wrapper from another pack of gum to create the belt. Wrap gum wrapper around package and tape in place.
  • Step 4: Cut belt buckle from construction paper and glue to gum wrapper belt.
  • Step 5: Draw buttons with a black marker or use construction paper again.

Steps to show wrapping a gift

That’s it!! If you’re going to give this as a teacher’s gift, I would write “thanks for going the Extra mile this year!” If it’s for a stocking stuffer, I would write “because I think you’re Extra special”.

That’s it, cute and easy!! I had a lot of fun making them and my kids can’t wait to make their own for their teachers!!
