Ingredients  

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup frozen diced onions or 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cheddar cheese soup or cream of chicken
  • ½ cup milk
  • cup barbecue sauce or ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1 (28-32 ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • chopped pickles for topping, optional

Instructions 

  • Heat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet, cook the beef and onions over medium-high heat until browned. Drain well.
  • Stir in cheddar soup, milk, barbecue sauce, mustard, and ½ cup of cheddar cheese. Simmer 1 to 2 minutes to warm through.
  • Spread the beef mixture in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top. Arrange tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes until the tots are crisp and the filling is bubbling.
  • Rest 5 minutes before serving. Top with chopped pickles (or your favorite burger toppings).
