This German chocolate pie has a buttery chocolate crust, creamy chocolate pecan filling, and a rich coconut pecan topping. It is a decadent make-ahead dessert for holidays, parties, or chocolate lovers
Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between intervals, until melted. Set it aside to cool slightly.
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, heat the heavy whipping cream just until warm to the touch (do not boil).
Remove from the heat and whisk in the egg yolks and instant chocolate pudding mix. Once smooth and slightly thickened, whisk in the melted chocolate until fully incorporated.
Fold in the chopped pecans, and pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared crust.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until set.
Once cooled, spread the coconut-pecan frosting on top, then garnish with whole pecans (optional).
Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving. Then serve drizzled with chocolate sauce (optional).
