Cinnamon Sugar French Toast Sticks
Servings: 5 people
French Toast Sticks are a delicious breakfast treat many of us grew up with as kids made with bread, eggs, milk, almond extract, cinnamon, and sugar.
Prep the bread by slicing the sides off of each slice and then cutting the pieces of bread into 3 thick sticks.
In a medium bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, and almond extract. Quickly dip the pieces of bread in the egg, do not soak, and let any excess fall away into the bowl. Repeat until bread is gone.
Place the french toast sticks in a large skillet coated with cooking spray and cook on each side until golden brown, about 1 minute per side. Cook off any remaining sticks.
In a medium bowl, stir together the sugar and cinnamon and coat the cooked french toast sticks in the cinnamon sugar.
Serve with maple syrup or icing and enjoy hot.
- I like to use brioche because I love the flavor, but any thick-cut bread will do, you want your sticks to be about 1-inch thick on all sides.
- It's best to use stale bread for french toast sticks.
- Almond extract may be substituted for vanilla.
