Instructions
Preheat oven 350˚F.
Line an 8x8 inch pan with parchment paper, spray with baking spray or grease with butter and set aside.
Brownie Layer:
Cream together butter and both sugars until well combined, about 2 minutes.
Beat in eggs, one at a time, and add vanilla extract.
Stir in cocoa powder until combined, followed by the flour and salt. Stir.
Using a spatula, fold in the chocolate chips.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Layer:
Cream together butter, brown and white sugars until well combined, for 1-2 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl with a spatula.
Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
Stir in all purpose flour, baking soda and salt until well combined.
Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips. Set aside.
Assemble and Bake:
Spread the brownie batter evenly onto the prepared pan and use a spatula to level.
Drop cookie dough batter by spoonful over brownie layer evenly. Use a spatula to spread.
Bake for 35-40 minutes. Remember that brookies will continue to cook as they cool so be careful not to over bake. Check on them at the 30 minute mark.
Remove from oven and place on a cooing rack.
Stick the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips into the hot cookie layer. These will make the brookies prettier and the chocolate chewier.
Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.

Notes
If you want the cookie layer to be slightly under-baked and chewy, remove from oven after 30 minutes.
