Carrots – Choose any variety of carrots available, even baby carrots will do. Leave them unpeeled for a more rustic dish, if desired, just be sure to scrub and dry them thoroughly before cutting.

Glaze – Melted brown sugar in butter makes an excellent glaze for all kinds of veggies. But if you want the same glazed effect with a different flavor, try some honey or maple syrup!

How to Make Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots

Tender-crisp carrots are glazed in butter and brown sugar and ready to serve in 15 minutes!

  1. Add prepped carrots to a pot of boiling salted water, as described in recipe below.
  2. Simmer until carrots are tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  3. Add remaining ingredients to the pot and cook until the brown sugar is melted and the glaze is smooth.
  4. Stir carrots into the pot. Serve warm, sprinkled with parsley.

Tips For Success

  • Avoid overcooking the carrots so they stay firm.
  • Slice into uniform thicknesses so they cook evenly.
  • Save time and steam them while the glaze is cooking on the stove by placing the prepped carrots in a microwave-safe dish with an inch of water covered with plastic wrap. Poke some holes in the plastic so the steam can vent out and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Be careful to remove the plastic wrap away from your face to avoid the steam. Drain the carrots and stir them into the glaze in Step 4.

Serving And Storage Solutions

Keep leftover brown sugar-glazed carrots in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Reheat in the microwave, or stove top, or toss them in the slow cooker with a bag of mixed frozen veggies to make a whole new dish!

Leftovers can also be added to a casserole dish and serve along with a pot roast, pork chops, or baked rosemary chicken breasts.

  • Bring a saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add carrots and simmer 5-6 minutes or until carrots are tender-crisp (do not overcook). Drain well and set aside.
  • Add butter, brown sugar, and salt to the same pot and cook over medium heat for 1-2 minutes or until brown sugar melts and is smooth.
  • Stir in carrots. Serve warm.
